Precious Lace

Diamonds set in scalloped gold openwork that reads like antique lace, cut into tutu ruffles, waves and hearts.

Alhambra

Van Cleef & Arpels

Alhambra

A four-leaf clover cut from stone and ringed with a double row of gold beads, repeated along a chain like a string of charms.

The Alhambra's clover holds its colour inside a frame: mother-of-pearl, onyx, malachite or carnelian, ringed by the double row of gold beads Van Cleef & Arpels drew in 1968. Chopard's Precious Lace has no infill. Its 2016 motifs are made of scalloped gold openwork with diamonds sitting along the curves, so light passes through the piece. Van Cleef & Arpels repeats a solid sign like a string of charms, and Chopard makes a pattern out of voids.
