The gold band

Allegra or Perlée

de Grisogono · Van Cleef & Arpels

Allegra

de Grisogono

Allegra

Thin rings spiralled together so they look randomly stacked: one jewel that reads as many, wound around each other.

Perlée

Van Cleef & Arpels

Perlée

The house's oldest ornament, the polished gold bead, made into the whole jewel: bangles, rings and hoops lined with rows of tiny golden spheres.

Perlée turned an ornament from the margins into the main event: Van Cleef & Arpels had used gold beads to edge its pieces since the 1920s, and in 2008 made them the whole jewel. Allegra, from 2003, did something comparable for de Grisogono, becoming the first of its jewelry collections to stand as the house's emblem. Perlée is ordered, rows of polished spheres; Allegra is deliberately loose, thin spirals that seem to have been stacked at random.
