Return to Tiffany

A key-ring tag engraved 'Please Return to Tiffany & Co. New York' with a registry number, so lost keys could find their owner through the Fifth Avenue store.

Words are the whole ornament of Return to Tiffany. It began in 1966 as a practical object, a key tag engraved with the Fifth Avenue address and a registry number so that lost keys could find their way home, and by 1980 it had become a gold heart on a box chain. The Pi says nothing. Jean Dinh Van took the bi of ancient China, a pierced disc standing for the sky, and in 1991 made it in 24-carat gold, hammered by hand until the soft metal hardened.
