Tiffany T

The capital T of the house name, pared down to a bar, becomes the clasp, the terminals and the whole motif of a bangle or ring.

The letter T and the Chinese bi are both reductions, one of a name and the other of the sky. Francesca Amfitheatrof's Tiffany T, her first collection, in 2014, takes a monogram bracelet from the Blue Book of 1975-76 and pares the T to two bars facing each other across the gap of a wire bangle. Pi, from 1991, goes further still: a disc of 24-carat gold, pierced at the centre and hammered by hand, with no letter or mark. Jean Dinh Van's emblem spells no one's name.
