Africa

Slightly lopsided beads of 18k yellow gold, each scored by hand with a burin into thousands of fine lines, strung in graduated rows so the satin surface glows rather than shines.

Piaget

Extremely Piaget

Gold chased and engraved until it reads like silk or bark, revived from the house's 1970s cuffs and sautoirs and lit with turquoise, opal and diamonds.

Silk is the word both houses reach for. Extremely Piaget, shown at the Paris Biennale des Antiquaires in 2014 for Piaget's 140th year, revived the chased and engraved gold of the house's 1970s cuffs and sautoirs, the Palace decor, lit with turquoise, opal and lapis. Africa gets its silk from the burin: Marco Bicego scores each rounded yellow-gold bead with countless parallel lines, the old bulino millerighe technique, and strings the beads in graduated rows.
