The quatrefoil and the flower

Lunaria or Frivole

Marco Bicego · Van Cleef & Arpels

Lunaria

Marco Bicego

Lunaria

Flat, rounded petals modelled on the papery, moon-like seed pods of the honesty plant, in gold, diamond pavé or thin slices of mother-of-pearl and coloured stone.

Frivole

Van Cleef & Arpels

Frivole

A flower of heart-shaped petals in gold polished to a mirror, so smooth the bare metal throws light like a stone.

Heart-shaped petals, polished by hand to a mirror, make Frivole a flower of bare gold, gathered by Van Cleef & Arpels since 2003 into loose, asymmetric clusters after clips of the 1940s. Lunaria's petals are round rather than heart-shaped, and come from a seed pod rather than a bloom: the honesty plant's flat discs, which Marco Bicego sets side by side in gold or cuts from jade and mother-of-pearl.
