Giardino

A four-petalled flower in openwork gold with a lace edge, set with one stone at its heart, taken from the gardens of Isola Madre on Lake Maggiore.

Fleurette

Van Cleef & Arpels

Fleurette

Seven round diamonds gathered into one small stylised flower, a corolla of stones with almost no metal showing.

Stone against metal. Van Cleef & Arpels' Fleurette is almost all diamond, seven round stones making a corolla that hides its setting. Mellerio's Giardino is almost all gold, four petals cut in openwork with a lace edge, a single pink sapphire, ruby or tsavorite at the centre. It is white against colour, a jeweller's abstraction against an island garden on Lake Maggiore.
