Jeux de Rubans

Ribbons of pavé white gold or plain pink gold loop and cross behind a single Akoya pearl, as if a present had just been tied.

Between the Finger

An open ring that lies across two fingers, with a motif at each end turned toward the other.

One pearl at the centre, or two motifs at the edges. Mikimoto's Jeux de Rubans gathers everything toward one round Akoya, with ribbons of diamond-set white gold or plain pink gold looping behind it. Van Cleef & Arpels pushes its ornament outward in Between the Finger, the open ring it first made in 1972, where a flower, a clover or a butterfly wing sits at each end and faces its partner across two fingers. Mikimoto's composition converges; the Paris ring is a dialogue.
