Quatre

Four bands, each carrying one archive motif (grosgrain ribbing, a line of diamonds, Clou de Paris facets, a double gadroon) pressed together into a single ring.

Macri

Buccellati

Macri

Yellow and white gold engraved with thousands of hair-fine parallel rigato lines that catch light like silk moiré, starred with diamonds set in tiny rosettes.

One of Quatre's four bands copies grosgrain, the ribbed ribbon of hat bands and medals; Macri's rigato lines, engraved by hand, make two colours of gold ripple like moiré. Both rings borrow from silk, in different weaves. Solange Azagury-Partridge assembled Quatre at Boucheron in 2004 from archive motifs pressed together. Gianmaria Buccellati's engraving covers the whole surface of Macri and lets small diamonds glint from star-shaped settings.
