Boucheron

Quatre

Four bands, each carrying one archive motif (grosgrain ribbing, a line of diamonds, Clou de Paris facets, a double gadroon) pressed together into a single ring.

Perlée

Van Cleef & Arpels

Perlée

The house's oldest ornament, the polished gold bead, made into the whole jewel: bangles, rings and hoops lined with rows of tiny golden spheres.

Two Place Vendôme houses went to their archives within four years of each other. Boucheron, in 2004, took four motifs, from grosgrain ribbing to a double gadroon, and pressed them into Quatre. Van Cleef & Arpels, in 2008, took just one, the polished gold bead that had edged its jewels since the 1920s, and built Perlée from it. Quatre combines; Perlée isolates. Both lines now climb from small earrings and rings to diamond-set high jewelry.
