Tulle

A half-millimetre sheet of gold pierced by hand into hundreds of minute hexagonal cells, so the metal reads like net lace.

Sculpted Cable

The cable's round twist pressed into low relief, so the helix becomes a row of polished gold waves laid side by side.

Sculpted Cable is solid relief; Tulle is openwork. David Yurman's 2023 bracelet takes the house's round cable twist and presses it flat while keeping its volume, a row of polished gold waves. Mario Buccellati's 1920s technique saws a thin sheet into hundreds of hexagons, each plate taking a goldsmith close to a month, until the metal reads as net. Yurman shapes and smooths a mass of gold; Buccellati's goldsmiths work in what they take away.
