Cartier Destinée

A solitaire circled by a halo of small diamonds set so lightly that they seem to float free of the metal.

Albion ring in 18k yellow gold, 11 mm: a cushion-cut Hampton blue topaz in a frame of pavé diamonds on a split cable shank, on a white ground.

Albion

One generous coloured stone cut as a soft-cornered cushion, held in a slim bezel and often ringed with pavé diamonds.

Platinum and a diamond, or sterling silver and blue topaz: the halo works in both registers. Cartier's Destinée rings a diamond, or an oval emerald, with small diamonds set to seem free of the metal, the language of a bridal ring. David Yurman's Albion rings a cushion of colour, topaz, amethyst, prasiolite or onyx, in a slim bezel, and runs the house cable into a split shank. Paris refines the halo, and New York gives it colour and texture.
