Albion

One generous coloured stone cut as a soft-cornered cushion, held in a slim bezel and often ringed with pavé diamonds.

The Tiffany Setting

Six slender prongs lift a round brilliant diamond clear of the band, so the stone, not the mount, carries the ring.

New York produced both rings, and they hold a single stone in opposite ways. The Tiffany Setting of 1886 uses six slender prongs to lift a round diamond into the light, the platinum reduced to almost nothing. David Yurman's Albion wraps a cushion of colour, blue topaz, amethyst, citrine or malachite among others, in a slim bezel, often circled with pavé, and twists the house cable into a split shank on the rings. Prongs expose the stone. A bezel encloses it.
