Joséphine

A diadem shrunk to the finger: a pear-cut stone rising from scrolled arcs, the way an aigrette rises from a tiara.

Albion ring in 18k yellow gold, 11 mm: a cushion-cut Hampton blue topaz in a frame of pavé diamonds on a split cable shank, on a white ground.

Albion

One generous coloured stone cut as a soft-cornered cushion, held in a slim bezel and often ringed with pavé diamonds.

Chaumet signs Joséphine in its setting, a set of scrolled arcs rising to a pear-cut stone, a diadem compressed after two and a half years and many prototypes. David Yurman does the same on Albion with the twisted cable that is the house motif, split along the shank and leading to a soft cushion of colour in a slim bezel. The stone matters less than what holds it. Paris recalls an empress; New York repeats its own twist.
