LOVE or Force 10

LOVE
A rigid oval of gold closed by two working screws, so the bracelet goes on with a screwdriver and stays on.
Force 10
A length of braided steel marine cable closed by a gold shackle, named after a storm on the Beaufort scale.
Three years and an ocean apart, two bracelets made the fastening the whole point. Henri Samuel built Force 10 in Paris in 1966 from the steel cable of the sailing world his family knew, closing it with a gold shackle. Aldo Cipullo drew LOVE at Cartier New York in 1969 as a rigid oval held by two working screws, so taking it off needs the little screwdriver that still comes in the box. One fastening is made to be undone, the other to stay put.
