Force 10

A length of braided steel marine cable closed by a gold shackle, named after a storm on the Beaufort scale.

A nail and a shackle come from places where things are fixed hard. Force 10, made by Henri Samuel in 1966, keeps the sea in its braided marine cable and takes its name from a storm on the Beaufort scale. Juste un Clou, drawn by Aldo Cipullo in New York five years later, bends a single gold nail round the wrist until its head lies beside its point. Cartier brought the nail back in 2012, when Force 10 was already 46 years old.
