Solitaire 1895

One stone raised on four claws above a plain band, the house's barest answer to the engagement ring.

Mellerio Cut

A diamond cut of the house's own, a softened oval that carries the memory of the Beau Sancy, worn alone inside a fine halo of pavé.

Both names point to the past. Cartier's Solitaire 1895 recalls the year a solitaire first appears in its archives; the Mellerio Cut recalls the Beau Sancy, a diamond of Indian origin favoured by Marie de Médicis, the queen who granted the Mellerio family its privileges in 1613. Cartier keeps the classic four-claw setting and the stone's familiar shapes, from brilliant to emerald cut. Mellerio cuts a softened oval of its own and rings it with fine pavé.
