Ice Cube

A band divided into small gold cubes with chamfered edges, so light breaks across it like ice.

Piaget

Extremely Piaget

Gold chased and engraved until it reads like silk or bark, revived from the house's 1970s cuffs and sautoirs and lit with turquoise, opal and diamonds.

Up close, Ice Cube is crisp and Extremely Piaget is soft. Chopard's 1999 band keeps its surface clean: polished cubes, cut with diamond-tipped tools, edges chamfered. Piaget's 2014 line, a revival of the house's 1970s, chased and engraved its rose gold until it looked like silk or bark, and set turquoise and opal beside it. Both houses are in Geneva; one wants light to break cleanly at an edge, the other wants it to soften across a worked surface.
