Stamina and brevity: the two plants were chosen for opposite reasons. The mimosa flowers whatever the weather, and Damiano Grassi Damiani made it a diamond tribute to his wife Gabriella and daughter Silvia. The vanilla cactus opens for a single night each year; in Le Petit Cactus Laure-Isabelle Mellerio set its stamens in rose gold around one stone in 2019, recalling Redouté's painting for Marie-Antoinette. Damiani's flower speaks of persistence, Mellerio's of a rare, brief event.
