Eight matched stones ring a single round brilliant like petals around a seed head, laid out with a compass for strict symmetry.

Les Pétales Place Vendôme

Cupped rose petals of pavé diamonds drift against a round pearl, as if blown across the Place Vendôme.

Wind moves the petals in Les Pétales Place Vendôme: cupped planes of diamonds fall against an Akoya or South Sea pearl with no fixed count or plan, and Mikimoto gives the line no launch year. Harry Winston's Sunflower, introduced in 1950, is the opposite discipline, eight stones around a round brilliant, spaced by compass, in platinum. Both are mostly white and small enough for a pendant or an earring. Winston holds its petals in a ring; Mikimoto lets them go.
