The quatrefoil and the flower

Lunaria

Flat, rounded petals modelled on the papery, moon-like seed pods of the honesty plant, in gold, diamond pavé or thin slices of mother-of-pearl and coloured stone.

Bouton d'or

Van Cleef & Arpels

Bouton d'or

Little discs of gold, each with a stone at its centre, massed in rows and rings like the head of a buttercup.

In Bouton d'or, small polished gold discs, each centred on a stone, are massed into the head of a buttercup, a motif Van Cleef & Arpels first used in 1936, close kin to evening-dress sequins, and revived in 2016. Lunaria's discs have no central stone: Marco Bicego draws them from the honesty plant's seed pods and makes each one a single surface of gold, pavé or pale stone.
