The story

Bulgari launched B.zero1 in 1999 and took the curving tiers of the Colosseum as its profile, at a moment when jewellery leaned towards minimalism. The spiral sits between two engraved rims and comes in one to five bands, in every colour of gold, in ceramic and with diamond edges. Zaha Hadid turned the spiral into waves in 2017, and the five-band original returned for the line's twentieth year.

Thirty years on, Bulgari took up the gold band that announces itself, spiralling it after the Colosseum and engraving its own name on the rims.

    Torsade de Chaumet, Chaumet (2021)

Chaumet also spirals after a monument: the frieze winding up the Vendôme Column, itself modelled on Trajan's in Rome.
