Jack de Boucheron

A supple gold cable closed by a faceted clasp shaped like an audio jack, wrapped once or three times round the wrist or opened out as a necklace or belt.

Serrure bangle in brushed yellow gold: a slim open band whose flattened end forms a keyhole-shaped clasp, on a white ground.

Serrure

A bangle of springy gold wire, one end flattened by a hammer stroke into a clasp shaped like a lock.

Jean Dinh Van spent his effort on the metal itself, working a wire for Serrure in 1975 until it would open and still hold its shape with no hinge, then flattening one end into a lock. Claire Choisne, at Boucheron in 2019, took suppleness from audio cable instead: Jack is a flexible gold cord closed by a faceted clasp modelled on a jack plug. Both wanted gold that gives, and found it in unlikely company, the goldsmith's hand in one case and a piece of everyday electronics in the other.
