Serrure

A bangle of springy gold wire, one end flattened by a hammer stroke into a clasp shaped like a lock.

All the meaning gathers at the ends of these two bangles. In Juste un Clou, drawn by Aldo Cipullo in 1971, the ends are the head and point of a nail, laid side by side. In Serrure, made by Jean Dinh Van in 1975, one end is struck flat with a hammer and cut into a clasp that recalls a lock, and the springy wire opens without a hinge. A carpenter's nail and a locksmith's plate, four years and an Atlantic apart.
