Hundreds of tiny rings, each coiled by hand from twisted gold thread and linked like the flowers of a lei, so a necklace moves like knitted cord.

Granelli

Small gold grains with dimpled surfaces, threaded side by side so a bracelet reads as a line of Mauritian sand.

Two islands lie behind these chains: Hawaii, whose flower garlands Mario Buccellati turned into hundreds of hand-coiled gold rings in the 1930s, and Mauritius, whose sand DoDo modelled into dimpled grains in 1994. The Buccellati circles are made from fine twisted thread, filo ritorto, and linked one to the next until the necklace moves like knitted cord. DoDo's Granelli grains are solid, sold one by one and threaded side by side. A Pacific lei and an Indian Ocean shore, both rendered in Milanese gold.
