Macri

Yellow and white gold engraved with thousands of hair-fine parallel rigato lines that catch light like silk moiré, starred with diamonds set in tiny rosettes.

Ice Cube

A band divided into small gold cubes with chamfered edges, so light breaks across it like ice.

A hand-held chisel cuts the rigato lines of Macri, thousands of them, parallel and hair-fine, until yellow and white gold shimmer like moiré silk. Diamond-tipped tools, which Chopard says took nearly ten years to perfect, cut the grooves of Ice Cube before its corners are chamfered by hand. Both surfaces are made by removing metal. Buccellati's surface is soft and luminous, lit by diamonds in star-shaped settings, where Chopard's 1999 band is crisp, graphic and made to stack.
