Skinny at Messika

The story

Developed by Valérie Messika in 2009, two years after Move, Skinny set out to turn the diamond rivière from an evening piece into an everyday one. The strands are threaded on an arrangement of nano springs, so the gold and diamond line bends and returns to shape without breaking; the technique has since run through necklaces, cuffs and the house's high jewellery.

Lineage

  • Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard sprinkle necklaces in 18k yellow gold, bezel-set diamonds spaced along fine chains, hanging against a peach ground with evergreen sprigs.

Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard, Tiffany & Co. (1974)

Skinny takes up the line of diamonds worn as lightly as a chain and makes it elastic.

  • Move Classique double-chain bracelet in white gold: an open gold cage holding three diamonds that slide along it, on a pale grey ground.

    Move, Messika (2007)

Two years after Move, Messika put the movement into the line itself: tiny springs let a rivière stretch over the hand and close back.
