Skinny

A rivière of diamonds made elastic: tiny springs between the settings let the line twist, stretch over the hand and close back round the wrist.

Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard sprinkle necklaces in 18k yellow gold, bezel-set diamonds spaced along fine chains, hanging against a peach ground with evergreen sprigs.

Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard

Diamonds set flat in thin gold bezels and spaced along a fine chain, so the stones seem scattered on the skin rather than mounted.

Elsa Peretti in 1974 and Valérie Messika in 2009 set themselves the same task: taking diamonds out of evening wear. Peretti did it at Tiffany by spacing single bezel-set stones along a fine chain, so the gold all but disappears. Messika kept the rivière whole, a continuous line of diamonds, and threaded it on tiny springs so it stretches over the hand and closes round the wrist. Diamonds by the Yard thins the stones out; Skinny keeps them shoulder to shoulder and makes them elastic.
