Piaget Solstice

Cocktail rings built like drinks: a large coloured centre stone dressed with gem garnish that opens away so the stone can be worn alone.

Serti sur Vide ring in white gold: two open bands joined by a short bar, with a pear-cut diamond held above them, on a light grey ground.

Serti sur Vide

A diamond held on a hidden bar so it seems to hover above the finger or the ear, with nothing visible beneath it.

Piaget's Solstice rings of 2022 surround a coloured centre gem with garnish, rough diamonds for ice, emeralds for mint, then let that decoration open away so the stone can be worn by itself. Repossi's Serti sur Vide, from 2014, starts with nothing around the stone at all and even hides what lies beneath, a concealed bar that makes the diamond seem to float. Freeing the stone is the aim of both: Solstice subtracts at will, and Serti sur Vide is subtraction from the start.
