Ice Cube

A band divided into small gold cubes with chamfered edges, so light breaks across it like ice.

Perlée

Van Cleef & Arpels

Perlée

The house's oldest ornament, the polished gold bead, made into the whole jewel: bangles, rings and hoops lined with rows of tiny golden spheres.

Corners against curves. Ice Cube, from 1999, cuts its band into small blocks whose chamfered edges scatter light like ice; Perlée, from 2008, lines rings and bangles with polished gold beads, an ornament Van Cleef & Arpels was already using in the 1920s. Both are sold as slender rings meant to be worn in rows, and both run up to pavé. The Geneva unit is geometric and androgynous; the Paris one is round, and stands slightly proud of the band.
