Precious Lace

Diamonds set in scalloped gold openwork that reads like antique lace, cut into tutu ruffles, waves and hearts.

Les Pétales Place Vendôme

Cupped rose petals of pavé diamonds drift against a round pearl, as if blown across the Place Vendôme.

Motion separates two pieces built from pavé. In Mikimoto's Les Pétales Place Vendôme the petals are curved, slightly hollowed planes of small stones that drift beside an Akoya or South Sea pearl, a Tokyo house borrowing a Paris address. Chopard's Precious Lace sets its diamonds in scalloped openwork, first as high-jewelry parures in 2016, its Mini-Froufrou ring a tiny lace tutu. Mikimoto suggests wind; Chopard suggests the swing of a dancer's skirt.
