Ice Cube

A band divided into small gold cubes with chamfered edges, so light breaks across it like ice.

Belle Époque

Round diamonds alternating with rubies, sapphires or emeralds round a band, like frames on a reel of film running past.

On Ice Cube the gold itself throws the light, from chamfered cubes cut with diamond-tipped tools; on Belle Époque the stones do it, round diamonds alternating with coloured stones round the band. Chopard, in Geneva in 1999, wanted something graphic and androgynous. Damiani's line looks back to Enrico Grassi Damiani's sketches of 1920s Paris and its film stars, the stones passing like frames on a reel. One is metal treated as crystal; the other is a chain of real gems.
