The Cable Collection

Strands of metal twisted into a helix and bent into an open cuff, its two ends capped with gold and a coloured stone.

Damiani's sketches came out of Paris; Yurman's cuff came out of a sculptor's welding practice. Belle Époque, which Enrico Grassi Damiani drew after a trip to the city and its 1920s screen culture, alternates diamonds with coloured stones round a band. Cable, from 1982, twists strands of metal into a helix and saves its colour for the caps at either end. Damiani spreads its stones evenly, frame by frame like film; Yurman gathers them at two points and lets the twisted metal fill the space between.
