Force 10

A length of braided steel marine cable closed by a gold shackle, named after a storm on the Beaufort scale.

One cable came from a sculptor's bench, the other from a boat's rigging. David Yurman's Cable began in 1982 with some fifty feet of gold wire twisted into a helix and bent into an open cuff, stones capping the ends, with ancient torques at the Met as his reference. In 1966 Henri Samuel, son of FRED's founder, made Force 10 from braided steel marine cable fastened with gold and named it after a storm on the Beaufort scale; today a gold shackle clips onto interchangeable cables.
