Pepita or Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard
DoDo · Tiffany & Co.
Pepita
Gold beads shaped like pebbles worn smooth by the sea, each a little irregular, threaded into bracelets, rings and earrings meant for anyone.
Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard
Diamonds set flat in thin gold bezels and spaced along a fine chain, so the stones seem scattered on the skin rather than mounted.
Sea-smoothed pebbles and flat-set diamonds both arrive on the body as if dropped there. DoDo's Pepita, from 2000, models each gold bead on a stone worn down by waves and wind, a little irregular, and threads them into bracelets presented as unisex. Elsa Peretti's Diamonds by the Yard, from 1974, frames each diamond in a thin gold bezel and spaces it along a chain so fine the stones look scattered. Neither looks as if a jeweller had mounted it, which is the effect both were after.
